Description

Indulge in a classic Surf and Turf dish featuring perfectly seared filet mignon and tender lobster tails, all topped with a rich hollandaise sauce. This elegant recipe is perfect for special occasions or a luxurious dinner at home.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lobster tails
  • 2 filet mignon steaks
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Fresh thyme, for garnish
  • For Hollandaise Sauce:
    • 3 egg yolks
    • 1 tbsp lemon juice
    • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
    • Salt and cayenne pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Steak:
    • Season the filet mignon steaks with salt and pepper.
    • Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.
    • Sear steaks for 3-4 minutes on each side for medium-rare (adjust time for preferred doneness).
    • Remove from the skillet and let rest for 5 minutes.
  2. Cook Lobster Tails:
    • Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
    • Butterfly the lobster tails by cutting down the top shell and pulling the meat out to rest on top.
    • Brush lobster meat with melted butter, and sprinkle with salt and pepper.
    • Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the meat is opaque.
  3. Hollandaise Sauce:
    • In a heatproof bowl, whisk together egg yolks and lemon juice until thickened.
    • Place the bowl over simmering water (double boiler method), whisking constantly.
    • Slowly drizzle in melted butter while whisking until the sauce thickens.
    • Season with salt and cayenne pepper.
  4. Assemble:
    • Place the cooked steak on a plate, top with baked lobster tail.
    • Drizzle hollandaise sauce generously over both.
    • Garnish with fresh thyme and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Adjust cooking times based on your preferred level of steak doneness.
  • Use fresh lobster tails for the best flavor.
