  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
  • ⅔ cup milk

Instructions

  • In a large, wide saucepan, combine the blackberries, water, 1 cup sugar, ¼ teaspoon salt, and lemon extract. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
  • Once boiling, reduce the heat and simmer for 5 minutes, allowing the blackberries to soften.
  • For the dumplings, mix the flour, 1 tablespoon sugar, baking powder, ¼ teaspoon salt, nutmeg, and milk in a separate bowl until just combined.
  • Drop the dumpling mixture by tablespoonfuls into the simmering berry mixture. Cover tightly and simmer for 15 minutes without lifting the lid.
  • Serve hot, preferably with vanilla ice cream or fresh whipped cream.
