Description

This hearty Amish Hamburger Steak Bake is a comforting dish that combines savory ground beef patties with a creamy mushroom gravy, all baked to perfection. Perfect for family dinners, this recipe is a nostalgic favorite that’s easy to prepare and sure to please!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 1/2 cups saltine crackers, crumbled
  • 1 cup milk (for beef mixture)
  • 1 teaspoon Italian herbs
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Dash of cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 can condensed cream of mushroom soup (10.5 ounces)
  • 1 cup milk (for gravy)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  • In a large bowl, mix together ground beef, crumbled saltine crackers, 1 cup milk, Italian herbs, onion powder, garlic powder, cayenne pepper (if using), salt, and pepper.
  • Form the mixture into 1/2-inch-thick patties (about 8).
  • Lightly coat each patty in flour, tapping off the excess.
  • Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Add oil if needed and brown the patties on each side for 2-3 minutes.
  • Place the browned patties in a single layer in the greased baking dish.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the cream of mushroom soup and 1 cup milk. Pour the mixture over the patties.
  • Cover the dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Then uncover and bake for an additional 10 minutes.

Notes

  • Feel free to add vegetables like peas or green beans to the gravy for added nutrition and flavor.
  • The patties can be seasoned further with your favorite spices for a personalized touch.
