Description

A rich and flavorful spread made from slow-cooked apples, sugar, and spices, perfect for toasting, baking, or enjoying with breakfast.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 5 ½ pounds apples, peeled, cored, and finely chopped
  • 4 cups white sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cloves
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Instructions

  • Prepare Apples: Place the chopped apples in a slow cooker.
  • Mix Spices: In a medium bowl, combine the sugar, cinnamon, cloves, and salt. Pour this mixture over the apples and stir well to combine.
  • Cook: Cover the slow cooker and cook on High for 1 hour. Reduce the heat to Low and cook, stirring occasionally, until the mixture thickens and turns dark brown, about 9 to 11 hours. After the cooking time, uncover and continue to cook on Low for an additional hour. Stir with a whisk to increase smoothness if desired.
  • Store: Spoon the apple butter into sterile containers. Cover and refrigerate or freeze

Notes

  • For a smoother texture, whisk the apple butter after cooking.
