Description

These Apple & Carrot Chew Sticks for Dogs are a healthy, homemade treat packed with nutritious fruits and vegetables. With natural sweetness from apples and carrots, these chew sticks are not only delicious but also great for your dog’s teeth and overall health. A fun and wholesome snack that your pup will love!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup apple, finely grated (remove seeds)
  • 1/2 cup carrot, finely grated
  • 1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour (or oat flour for gluten-free option)
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1/4 cup water (more if needed)
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil (or unsweetened applesauce)
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon (optional, for flavor)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Mix dry ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the whole wheat flour, rolled oats, and cinnamon (if using).
  3. Add wet ingredients: Add the grated apple, grated carrot, egg, coconut oil (or applesauce), and water to the dry ingredients. Mix everything together until a dough forms. If the dough is too dry, add a little more water, 1 tablespoon at a time.
  4. Roll out the dough: Roll the dough out on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4-inch thickness.
  5. Cut the chew sticks: Using a knife or cookie cutter, cut the dough into long stick shapes or any fun shape you prefer.
  6. Bake: Place the chew sticks on the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until they are firm and lightly golden.
  7. Cool and serve: Allow the chew sticks to cool completely on a wire rack before serving them to your dog.

Notes

  • Make sure the apple is fully grated and no seeds are included, as apple seeds can be toxic to dogs.
  • Store the chew sticks in an airtight container for up to a week at room temperature or refrigerate them for longer freshness.
  • You can substitute coconut oil with olive oil if preferred.
  • These chew sticks can be frozen for up to 2 months if you’d like to make a larger batch.
