Ingredients
Scale
- 1/2 cup finely grated apple (peeled, core removed)
- 1/4 cup finely chopped unsweetened dried cranberries
- 1/2 cup oat flour (or whole wheat flour)
- 1/4 cup rolled oats
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon coconut oil (optional, for added moisture)
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Prepare the Dough:
- In a mixing bowl, combine the grated apple, chopped cranberries, egg, and coconut oil (if using). Stir until evenly mixed.
- Gradually add the oat flour and rolled oats, stirring until a sticky dough forms. If the dough feels too wet, add more oat flour one tablespoon at a time.
- Shape the Dental Sticks:
- Divide the dough into small portions and roll each portion into stick shapes about 4-5 inches long and 1/2 inch thick.
- Bake:
- Place the sticks on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes or until firm and lightly golden. For a crunchier texture, reduce the oven temperature to 250°F (120°C) and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes.
- Cool Completely:
- Allow the dental sticks to cool completely on a wire rack before giving them to your dog.
Notes
- Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days or freeze for up to 1 month.
- Make sure to use unsweetened dried cranberries to avoid added sugars.
- Adjust the size of the sticks based on your dog’s size; smaller dogs may need shorter sticks.
