Ingredients
Scale
- For the Dumplings:
- 2 Granny Smith apples (or any tart variety)
- 1 can (8 oz) crescent rolls (or puff pastry)
- For the Sweet Sauce:
- 1 cup butter (or vegan butter)
- 1.5 cups sugar (or coconut sugar)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 0.5 tsp ground cinnamon
- 0.5 cup Sprite or 7UP (or ginger ale)
- Pinch of ground nutmeg
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
- Prepare the Apples: Peel and core the apples, then cut each into 4 wedges.
- Roll the Apples: Unroll the crescent rolls into triangles. Place an apple wedge on the wide end of each triangle and roll tightly, pinching to seal. Arrange the rolled dumplings in a 9×13 baking dish.
- Make the Sweet Sauce: In a saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Mix in the sugar, vanilla, and cinnamon until the sugar dissolves. Pour this mixture over the dumplings.
- Add Sprite: Carefully pour the Sprite around the edges of the baking dish, avoiding the sugar mix on top of the dumplings.
- Sprinkle Nutmeg: Add a pinch of ground nutmeg on top of the dumplings.
- Bake: Bake for 35-45 minutes until golden brown and the apples are tender.
