Description
Frikadellen are traditional German meat patties that are crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Often served with potatoes or a side salad, these flavorful patties are perfect for a hearty meal.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground beef (or a mix of ground beef and pork)
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 teaspoon dried parsley
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (for frying)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, chopped onion, minced garlic, egg, breadcrumbs, milk, thyme, parsley, salt, and pepper. Mix everything thoroughly until well combined.
- Shape the meat mixture into patties, about 1/2 inch thick. You should be able to make around 6-8 patties, depending on the size.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the patties to the skillet. Cook the Frikadellen for 4-5 minutes per side, or until they are golden brown and cooked through. Adjust the heat as needed to ensure they cook evenly without burning.
- Once cooked, remove the Frikadellen from the skillet and let them rest on a plate lined with paper towels to drain any excess oil.
- Serve the Frikadellen hot with your favorite side dishes, such as mashed potatoes, sauerkraut, or a fresh salad.
Notes
- For an extra flavor boost, you can add a small amount of mustard or Worcestershire sauce to the meat mixture.
- You can also add finely chopped fresh herbs (like parsley or chives) for additional flavor.
- If you prefer a lighter version, you can bake the Frikadellen in the oven at 375°F (190°C) for 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway through.
