Description

This Baby Trail Mix is a delightful and healthy snack perfect for toddlers and young kids. With a mix of soft, bite-sized snacks like dried fruits, cereals, and a touch of protein, this snack is both nutritious and easy for little ones to enjoy.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened dried apples, chopped into small pieces
  • 1/2 cup dried apricots, chopped into small pieces
  • 1/4 cup mini whole-grain cereal (like Cheerios or a baby-friendly cereal)
  • 1/4 cup small puffed rice or puffed quinoa
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened raisins or dried cranberries (check for no added sugar)
  • 1/4 cup small, unsalted nuts (optional, make sure they are finely chopped if you use them for babies under 4 years old)
  • 1/4 cup mini pretzels (unsalted)

  • 1/4 cup freeze-dried fruit (such as strawberries or blueberries)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Ingredients:

    • Chop the dried fruit (apples and apricots) into small, bite-sized pieces, ensuring they are soft and easy for little ones to chew.
    • If using nuts, finely chop them into small pieces to avoid any choking hazard.
    • Ensure all ingredients are small and safe for babies or toddlers (no large pieces that could be a choking hazard).
  2. Mix the Trail Mix:

    • In a large bowl, combine the dried fruits, cereal, puffed rice or quinoa, raisins, pretzels, and freeze-dried fruit.
    • Gently stir to mix all the ingredients together. This is a no-bake, no-cook snack that’s ready to serve!
  3. Serve:

    • Serve immediately or store in an airtight container for up to one week. This trail mix makes for an easy snack to pack for on-the-go meals or afternoon munching.

Notes

  • Nut-Free Version: You can skip the nuts entirely or substitute with sunflower seeds to make the mix completely nut-free for young children.
  • Customize the Mix: You can add other toddler-friendly ingredients like mini marshmallows, small bits of coconut flakes, or even some small chocolate chips for an occasional treat.

  • Dried Fruit Tip: Choose dried fruits without added sugar, and be sure they are soft to prevent choking. You can also opt for homemade dried fruit, if available.
