Description

Bang Bang Shrimp Tacos are a spicy, creamy, and crunchy explosion of flavor wrapped in a soft tortilla. Crispy shrimp tossed in a zesty bang bang sauce are paired with tangy slaw and fresh toppings for the ultimate taco night favorite. These tacos are quick to prepare and deliver restaurant-style flavor right at home.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • 8 small flour or corn tortillas
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce or cabbage slaw
  • 1/4 cup diced green onions
  • Optional toppings: sliced avocado, chopped cilantro, lime wedges

For the Bang Bang Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup sweet chili sauce
  • 12 tablespoons sriracha (adjust to heat preference)
  • 1 tablespoon honey (optional for added sweetness)

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, marinate the shrimp in buttermilk for 10-15 minutes.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix together the cornstarch, flour, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  3. Heat about 1–2 inches of vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat until shimmering.
  4. Remove shrimp from the buttermilk and dredge in the flour mixture. Fry the shrimp in batches for 2–3 minutes per side until golden and crispy. Drain on paper towels.
  5. In a small bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce, sriracha, and honey (if using) to make the bang bang sauce.
  6. Toss the fried shrimp in the sauce until well coated.
  7. Warm tortillas and fill each with slaw or shredded lettuce, then top with the coated shrimp.
  8. Garnish with green onions, avocado, cilantro, and a squeeze of lime if desired.
  9. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

  • For a healthier option, you can air fry or bake the shrimp instead of frying.
  • Customize the heat by adjusting the amount of sriracha in the sauce.
  • Make it gluten-free by using gluten-free flour and corn tortillas.
  • You can prep the sauce and slaw ahead of time to speed up the process.
