- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Vegetable oil, for frying
- 8 small flour or corn tortillas
- 1 cup shredded lettuce or cabbage slaw
- 1/4 cup diced green onions
- Optional toppings: sliced avocado, chopped cilantro, lime wedges
For the Bang Bang Sauce:
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 1/4 cup sweet chili sauce
- 1–2 tablespoons sriracha (adjust to heat preference)
- 1 tablespoon honey (optional for added sweetness)
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, marinate the shrimp in buttermilk for 10-15 minutes.
- In a separate bowl, mix together the cornstarch, flour, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
- Heat about 1–2 inches of vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat until shimmering.
- Remove shrimp from the buttermilk and dredge in the flour mixture. Fry the shrimp in batches for 2–3 minutes per side until golden and crispy. Drain on paper towels.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce, sriracha, and honey (if using) to make the bang bang sauce.
- Toss the fried shrimp in the sauce until well coated.
- Warm tortillas and fill each with slaw or shredded lettuce, then top with the coated shrimp.
- Garnish with green onions, avocado, cilantro, and a squeeze of lime if desired.
- Serve immediately and enjoy!
Notes
- For a healthier option, you can air fry or bake the shrimp instead of frying.
- Customize the heat by adjusting the amount of sriracha in the sauce.
- Make it gluten-free by using gluten-free flour and corn tortillas.
- You can prep the sauce and slaw ahead of time to speed up the process.
