Description

Beef Braciole is a classic Italian dish made with thinly sliced beef rolled with a flavorful filling of breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, garlic, and herbs, then simmered in a rich tomato sauce. This comforting dish is perfect for a family dinner or special occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 thinly sliced beef flank steaks (about 1/4 inch thick)
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1/4 cup pine nuts (optional)
  • 1/2 cup grated mozzarella cheese (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/2 cup dry white wine
  • 1 jar (24 oz) marinara or tomato sauce
  • Fresh basil, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Place each beef steak between two sheets of plastic wrap or parchment paper and gently pound with a meat mallet to flatten them to about 1/4 inch thickness.
  3. In a bowl, combine the breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, garlic, parsley, oregano, red pepper flakes, pine nuts (if using), and salt and pepper. Mix well.
  4. Lay each beef steak flat on a clean surface and spread the breadcrumb mixture evenly over the top, pressing gently to adhere.
  5. Roll up each steak tightly, securing the ends with toothpicks or kitchen twine to hold the stuffing in place.
  6. In a large oven-safe skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Brown the beef rolls on all sides, about 5-7 minutes total.
  7. Once browned, remove the beef from the skillet and set aside. Add the wine to the skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes to deglaze the pan.
  8. Add the marinara sauce to the skillet and bring to a simmer. Return the beef rolls to the pan, spooning some sauce over them.
  9. Cover the skillet and transfer it to the oven. Bake for 45-60 minutes, until the beef is tender and the filling is cooked through.
  10. Remove the toothpicks or twine from the beef rolls and serve with fresh basil for garnish, if desired.

Notes

  • Serve with pasta or crusty bread to soak up the delicious sauce.
  • For extra richness, you can add a few tablespoons of ricotta cheese to the filling mixture.
  • Leftovers keep well in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and can be reheated in the sauce.
