Description

This Better Than Anything Toffee is an indulgent, decadent treat that combines crispy, buttery toffee with a layer of chocolate and a crunchy topping. The perfect dessert for any occasion, it’s easy to make and absolutely irresistible!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (pecans or walnuts), optional
  • 1 ½ cups graham cracker crumbs (about 15 graham crackers, crushed)
  • ¼ teaspoon salt (optional, for extra flavor contrast)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  2. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter and brown sugar together, stirring constantly until the mixture begins to boil. Let it boil for 3-4 minutes, continuing to stir, until it thickens slightly and becomes a smooth caramel-like consistency.
  3. While the toffee mixture is simmering, spread the graham cracker crumbs evenly over the prepared baking sheet.
  4. Pour the toffee mixture over the graham cracker crumbs, spreading it out gently with a spatula to cover completely.
  5. Bake in the oven for 5-7 minutes, just until the toffee is bubbly.
  6. Remove from the oven and sprinkle the chocolate chips evenly over the hot toffee. Allow them to sit for 2-3 minutes until melted, then spread the chocolate into a smooth layer with a spatula.
  7. Sprinkle chopped nuts (if using) on top of the melted chocolate layer for added crunch and flavor.
  8. Allow the toffee to cool to room temperature. Once cooled, place in the fridge for at least 1 hour to firm up before cutting into squares or breaking into pieces.

Notes

  • If you prefer a richer chocolate layer, you can use milk chocolate chips or a combination of semi-sweet and milk chocolate chips.
  • For a variation, try sprinkling a bit of sea salt on top for a sweet and salty flavor contrast.
  • This toffee keeps well in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.
