Description
This Better Than Anything Toffee is an indulgent, decadent treat that combines crispy, buttery toffee with a layer of chocolate and a crunchy topping. The perfect dessert for any occasion, it’s easy to make and absolutely irresistible!
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 cup chopped nuts (pecans or walnuts), optional
- 1 ½ cups graham cracker crumbs (about 15 graham crackers, crushed)
- ¼ teaspoon salt (optional, for extra flavor contrast)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
- In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter and brown sugar together, stirring constantly until the mixture begins to boil. Let it boil for 3-4 minutes, continuing to stir, until it thickens slightly and becomes a smooth caramel-like consistency.
- While the toffee mixture is simmering, spread the graham cracker crumbs evenly over the prepared baking sheet.
- Pour the toffee mixture over the graham cracker crumbs, spreading it out gently with a spatula to cover completely.
- Bake in the oven for 5-7 minutes, just until the toffee is bubbly.
- Remove from the oven and sprinkle the chocolate chips evenly over the hot toffee. Allow them to sit for 2-3 minutes until melted, then spread the chocolate into a smooth layer with a spatula.
- Sprinkle chopped nuts (if using) on top of the melted chocolate layer for added crunch and flavor.
- Allow the toffee to cool to room temperature. Once cooled, place in the fridge for at least 1 hour to firm up before cutting into squares or breaking into pieces.
Notes
- If you prefer a richer chocolate layer, you can use milk chocolate chips or a combination of semi-sweet and milk chocolate chips.
- For a variation, try sprinkling a bit of sea salt on top for a sweet and salty flavor contrast.
- This toffee keeps well in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.
