Ingredients
Scale
For the Burger:
- 1 lb ground beef (80/20 blend for best flavor)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 3 sesame seed buns (for the three-part structure of a Big Mac)
- 6 slices American cheese
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 cup shredded iceberg lettuce
- 1/2 cup sliced pickles
For the Special Sauce:
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoons French dressing
- 1 tablespoon sweet relish
- 1 teaspoon white vinegar
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Prepare the Special Sauce: In a small bowl, mix together the mayonnaise, French dressing, sweet relish, vinegar, sugar, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Stir until smooth and well-combined. Set aside.
- Form the Patties: Divide the ground beef into 6 equal portions and form them into thin, round patties. Make the patties slightly larger than the buns, as they will shrink slightly while cooking. Season both sides with salt and pepper.
- Toast the Buns: Slice the sesame seed buns into three parts: top, bottom, and middle. Lightly toast the buns in a dry skillet or oven to get a golden, slightly crispy texture, which will help them hold up to the sauce.
- Cook the Patties: Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium-high heat. Cook the beef patties for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until cooked to your desired level of doneness. Place a slice of American cheese on each patty during the last minute of cooking to melt.
- Assemble the Big Mac:
- Spread a generous amount of special sauce on the bottom bun.
- Add a handful of shredded lettuce, a few slices of pickles, and a sprinkle of chopped onions.
- Place the first beef patty with melted cheese on top.
- Add the middle bun (the one you sliced earlier).
- Repeat the layering process with more special sauce, lettuce, pickles, onions, and the second beef patty with cheese.
- Top with the final bun (the top half).
- Serve: Carefully slice the Big Mac in half and serve with your favorite fries or chips for a true fast food experience at home!
Notes
- To make the burger even closer to the original, use store-bought hamburger buns and toast the top and bottom as usual, but use a middle bun from a third one to keep the triple-layer structure.
- You can adjust the amount of special sauce to your liking, and feel free to add extra pickles or onions for more flavor.
- For a healthier version, you can substitute leaner ground beef or use a plant-based patty.
