Description
A rich and intensely chocolatey loaf cake made with black cocoa powder, delivering deep color and bold flavor. Perfect for chocolate lovers looking for a dramatic dessert.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup black cocoa powder
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup buttermilk
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×5-inch loaf pan.
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, black cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In a separate large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.
- Alternately add dry ingredients and buttermilk to the creamed mixture, beginning and ending with dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
- Pour batter into prepared loaf pan and smooth the top.
- Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Cool in pan for 15 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
- Black cocoa powder gives the cake its signature dark color and intense flavor — Dutch-processed cocoa powder can be used as a substitute but will be lighter.
- Check doneness by inserting a toothpick; it should come out clean or with a few moist crumbs.
