Description

This Black Pepper Chicken with Mushrooms is a savory and peppery dish that combines tender chicken with earthy mushrooms, all cooked in a flavorful black pepper sauce. Quick and easy, it’s perfect for a weeknight dinner. The bold peppery sauce and juicy chicken create a satisfying meal you’ll love!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (or thighs)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 cups mushrooms (sliced, any variety, like cremini or button)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 tablespoon freshly ground black pepper (or to taste)
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch (optional, for thickening)
  • Salt, to taste
  • Fresh parsley (chopped, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Chicken:
Season the chicken breasts (or thighs) with salt and 1/2 tablespoon of black pepper on both sides.
  2. Cook the Chicken:
Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chicken and cook for 6-7 minutes on each side until golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature should reach 165°F or 74°C). Once cooked, remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside.
  3. Cook the Mushrooms:
In the same skillet, add the sliced mushrooms and sauté for about 4-5 minutes until softened and browned. Add the minced garlic and cook for another 1 minute until fragrant.
  4. Make the Sauce:
Add the chicken broth, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and remaining 1/2 tablespoon of black pepper to the skillet. Stir well, scraping any browned bits from the bottom of the pan. If you’d like a thicker sauce, mix 1 teaspoon of cornstarch with 2 teaspoons of water and stir it into the sauce.
  5. Combine and Simmer:
Return the cooked chicken to the skillet, spooning the sauce and mushrooms over the top. Simmer for 2-3 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together. Taste the sauce and adjust seasoning with salt or additional black pepper if needed.
  6. Serve:
Garnish with freshly chopped parsley and serve the black pepper chicken with mushrooms over rice, mashed potatoes, or steamed vegetables.
  7. Enjoy:
Enjoy this delicious, peppery chicken dish with your favorite sides!

Notes

  • For extra flavor, you can add a splash of cream or half-and-half to the sauce for a creamy texture.
  • If you prefer a spicier kick, increase the amount of black pepper or add crushed red pepper flakes.
  • You can substitute chicken thighs for a juicier, more flavorful option.
