This Blackened Salmon with Creamy Dijon Sauce is a flavorful, easy-to-make dish perfect for any dinner table. The salmon is seared to perfection with a spicy blackened seasoning that complements the creamy, tangy Dijon sauce. Together, they create an irresistible combination of rich, bold flavors and smooth textures. Serve this dish with a side of veggies or over a bed of rice for a complete meal.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Blackened Salmon:

  • 4 salmon fillets (6 oz each)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to heat preference)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

For the Creamy Dijon Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon honey (optional for a touch of sweetness)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Blackened Seasoning:
In a small bowl, combine paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, thyme, oregano, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.
  2. Season the Salmon:
Pat the salmon fillets dry with a paper towel. Drizzle olive oil over both sides of the fillets. Generously rub the blackened seasoning mix onto both sides of the salmon, pressing gently to ensure it sticks.
  3. Cook the Salmon:
Heat a large skillet (preferably cast iron) over medium-high heat. Once the skillet is hot, add the salmon fillets, skin-side down. Cook for 4-5 minutes per side, or until the salmon is cooked through and has a crispy, blackened crust. The internal temperature of the salmon should reach 145°F (63°C).
  4. Make the Creamy Dijon Sauce:
While the salmon is cooking, prepare the creamy Dijon sauce. In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, lemon juice, honey (if using), garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Stir until smooth and well combined.
  5. Serve:
Once the salmon is cooked, remove it from the skillet and place it on serving plates. Spoon a generous amount of the creamy Dijon sauce over the top of each fillet. Garnish with fresh herbs or a lemon wedge if desired.
  6. Enjoy:
Serve immediately with your favorite side dishes such as roasted vegetables, rice, or a fresh salad. Enjoy the bold flavors and creamy sauce!

Notes

  • For an extra crispy texture, sear the salmon fillets with the skin side down for the first 3 minutes before flipping.
  • Adjust the cayenne pepper in the blackened seasoning to your spice preference. You can also substitute with smoked paprika for a more intense smoky flavor.
  • The creamy Dijon sauce can be made ahead and stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
