Description

Soft, fluffy rolls swirled with sweet blueberry filling and creamy cheesecake, then baked to golden perfection. These blueberry cheesecake swirl rolls are a delightful twist on classic cinnamon rolls — perfect for brunch or a sweet breakfast treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • For the Dough:
  • ¾ cup warm milk (about 110°F)
  • 2¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • to 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • For the Cheesecake Filling:
  • 6 oz cream cheese, softened
  • ¼ cup powdered sugar
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • For the Blueberry Filling:
  • 1½ cups fresh or frozen blueberries
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch mixed with 1 tbsp water
  • For the Glaze:
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 12 tbsp milk
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Make the Dough: In a mixing bowl, combine warm milk and yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy. Add sugar, egg, melted butter, vanilla, and salt. Gradually mix in flour until a soft dough forms. Knead for 6–8 minutes, then place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  2. Prepare the Cheesecake Filling: In a small bowl, mix cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla until smooth.
  3. Prepare the Blueberry Filling: In a saucepan, cook blueberries, sugar, and lemon juice over medium heat until berries break down. Stir in cornstarch slurry and cook until thickened. Cool slightly.
  4. Assemble the Rolls: Roll out the dough on a floured surface into a rectangle (about 12×16 inches). Spread cheesecake mixture evenly over the dough, followed by the cooled blueberry filling.
  5. Carefully roll up the dough tightly from the long side. Slice into 12 rolls and place in a greased 9×13 inch baking dish. Cover and let rise again for 30–45 minutes.
  6. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake rolls for 25–30 minutes or until golden and cooked through.
  7. Make the Glaze: Whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla. Drizzle over warm rolls.
  8. Serve warm and enjoy your blueberry cheesecake swirl rolls!

Notes

  • You can use store-bought blueberry jam as a shortcut for the blueberry filling.
  • For overnight rolls, prepare them through step 5 and refrigerate overnight. Let them come to room temperature before baking.
  • Add lemon zest to the cheesecake filling for a bright, citrusy twist.
  • These rolls are best enjoyed fresh, but they can be stored in the refrigerator and reheated in the microwave.
