Description

These homemade Blueberry Danish pastries are the perfect balance of flaky, buttery dough with a sweet blueberry filling. A delicious breakfast treat or dessert that’s sure to impress!

Ingredients

Scale

For the Danish dough:

  • 1 sheet puff pastry (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar (for sprinkling)

For the blueberry filling:

  • 1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup water

For the cream cheese filling:

  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Roll out the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface. Cut into 4 equal squares (or more if you prefer smaller Danishes).
  3. In a small bowl, mix the cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth. Set aside.
  4. In a saucepan, combine the blueberries, sugar, lemon juice, cornstarch, and water. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the mixture thickens and the blueberries begin to break down (about 5-7 minutes). Remove from heat and set aside to cool slightly.
  5. Place a spoonful of the cream cheese mixture in the center of each puff pastry square, spreading it slightly. Then, add a spoonful of the blueberry mixture on top of the cream cheese.
  6. Fold the corners of the puff pastry over the filling, pinching the edges to seal. If you prefer a more open look, you can leave the center exposed.
  7. Brush the pastry with the beaten egg and sprinkle with granulated sugar for extra sweetness and a golden finish.
  8. Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and puffed.
  9. Let the Danishes cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

  • You can swap the blueberry filling for other fruit fillings like strawberry, raspberry, or cherry.
  • If using frozen blueberries, make sure to thaw and drain any excess liquid before making the filling.
