Ingredients
Scale
- 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt (unsweetened, preferably non-fat)
- 1/4 cup fresh or frozen blueberries (thawed if frozen)
- 1 tbsp water
- 1 tbsp honey (optional, for sweetness)
- 1/4 cup oat flour or whole wheat flour (optional, for thickening)
- 1/4 tsp vanilla extract (optional, for added flavor)
Instructions
- Prepare the Blueberry Yogurt Mixture:
In a small bowl, mash the blueberries with a fork or use a blender to puree them until smooth. In another bowl, combine the plain Greek yogurt, blueberry puree, and honey (if using). Stir until well combined. You can add a little water to thin it out, but keep the mixture thick enough to set in molds. - Add Optional Flour:
If you want a thicker consistency, mix in oat flour or whole wheat flour to the yogurt-blueberry mixture. This helps the treats firm up as they freeze and makes them easier to handle. - Prepare the Paw Molds:
Using silicone paw-shaped molds or ice cube trays, carefully spoon the yogurt-blueberry mixture into the molds. You can fill them all the way or leave a little space at the top to swirl in extra yogurt or berries. - Swirl (Optional):
If you want to create a swirl effect, add a spoonful of plain yogurt on top of the blueberry mixture and gently swirl it with a toothpick or fork to create a marbled look. - Freeze:
Place the molds in the freezer and allow the treats to freeze for at least 3-4 hours, or until fully set. - Serve:
Once frozen, carefully pop the treats out of the molds and serve them to your pup! These treats can be served straight from the freezer for a cool snack on a warm day or stored in an airtight container in the freezer for up to a month.
Notes
- Make sure to use unsweetened yogurt and avoid any flavored yogurts that may contain harmful sweeteners like xylitol, which is toxic to dogs.
- If your dog has any food sensitivities or allergies, you can substitute ingredients (e.g., coconut yogurt instead of dairy yogurt).
- You can also experiment with other fruit purees, such as strawberries, bananas, or pumpkin, to create different flavor variations.
- Always check with your vet before introducing new treats to ensure they are safe for your specific pet.
