Ingredients
Scale
- For the Steak Patties:
- 1 1/2 lbs ground beef (80/20)
- 1/3 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- For the Gravy:
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
- 8 oz cremini or button mushrooms, sliced
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp soy sauce (optional, for umami)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh parsley (for garnish)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, mustard, Worcestershire, chopped onion, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined.
- Form into 4–6 oval patties.
- Heat a skillet over medium-high heat with a little oil. Sear the patties for 3–4 minutes per side until browned. Remove and set aside (they don’t need to be fully cooked).
- In the same skillet, add butter and olive oil. Sauté onions and mushrooms for 6–8 minutes until caramelized.
- Stir in the flour and cook for 1–2 minutes.
- Gradually whisk in beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and soy sauce. Bring to a simmer until thickened, about 5 minutes.
- Return patties to skillet and spoon gravy over them. Cover and simmer for 10–12 minutes until steaks are cooked through.
- Garnish with parsley and serve hot with mashed potatoes or egg noodles.
Notes
- Use ground chuck or sirloin for better flavor and texture.
- You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.
- For extra richness, add a splash of cream or a pat of butter to the gravy before serving.
