Description

A comforting dish featuring tender ground beef patties topped with a rich mushroom gravy, perfect for family dinners or a satisfying weeknight meal.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Salisbury Steak:
1 lb ground beef (80% lean)
1/3 cup panko breadcrumbs
1 onion, finely diced
2 garlic cloves, minced
1/3 cup tomato sauce (marinara)
1 large egg
1 tsp yellow mustard
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp dried oregano
Salt and pepper, to taste
4 tbsp vegetable oil, divided

For the Mushroom Gravy:
9 oz white button mushrooms, sliced
1 onion, sliced
2 1/2 cups low sodium beef broth
1 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1 1/2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
3 tbsp cornstarch + 1/4 cup water (or beef stock) for slurry
Salt and pepper, as needed
1 tbsp vegetable oil

Instructions

  • Prepare the patties by combining ground beef, panko breadcrumbs, diced onion, minced garlic, tomato sauce, egg, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, oregano, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Mix until just combined and form into 4 patties.
  • Heat 2 tbsp of vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat and cook the patties for 4-5 minutes per side until browned. Remove and set aside.
  • In the same skillet, add 1 tbsp of vegetable oil and sauté sliced onions until softened. Add sliced mushrooms and cook until browned. Stir in onion powder, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce.
  • Pour in beef broth and bring to a simmer. Mix cornstarch with water to create a slurry, then stir it into the skillet and cook until the gravy thickens. Season with salt and pepper.
  • Return the patties to the skillet, spooning gravy over them, and simmer for an additional 5-7 minutes.

Notes

  • Make sure to monitor the cooking time to ensure the patties are cooked through.
  • Adjust seasoning according to your taste preference.
