Description

This Bold & Smoky Coffee Rub is the perfect seasoning blend for grilling, roasting, or smoking meats. With the deep richness of coffee, a hint of smokiness, and a touch of spice, this rub adds an irresistible flavor to your favorite cuts of meat, from steaks to ribs to chicken.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/4 cup ground coffee (preferably dark roast)
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp ground black pepper
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1/2 tsp salt (or more to taste)

  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)

Instructions

  1. Mix the Rub:

    • In a small bowl, combine all the ingredients: ground coffee, brown sugar, smoked paprika, chili powder, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, cumin, salt, and cayenne pepper (if using).
    • Stir until well mixed and all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
  2. Apply the Rub:

    • Pat your meat dry with paper towels to remove any moisture. This helps the rub stick better.
    • Generously coat your meat (steaks, chicken, pork, or ribs) with the coffee rub, pressing gently to ensure it sticks. Make sure to cover all sides evenly.
    • For best results, let the meat sit with the rub for at least 30 minutes, or refrigerate for a few hours or overnight for deeper flavor.
  3. Cook:

    • Grill, roast, or smoke your meat as usual, following your preferred method for the cut of meat you’re using. The rub will create a beautiful crust on the outside while keeping the inside juicy and flavorful.
  4. Serve:
Once your meat is cooked to your desired level, serve and enjoy the bold, smoky, and coffee-flavored crust!

Notes

  • You can adjust the level of heat by adding more or less cayenne pepper.
  • This rub works great on all types of meats but is particularly delicious on steak, chicken, and ribs.

  • Leftover rub can be stored in an airtight container for up to 6 months in a cool, dry place.
