Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 jar maraschino cherries with stems (about 2024 cherries)
  • 1 cup cherry vodka (or your preferred liquor)
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tbsp water
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • Chocolate for dipping (optional, for a chocolate-covered version)

Instructions

  1. Drain the maraschino cherries and pat them dry with paper towels. Remove the stems if desired for easier handling.
  2. In a small saucepan, combine the sugar and water, heating over medium heat until the sugar dissolves completely. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
  3. Pour the cherry vodka (or your choice of liquor) into a medium bowl. Add the sugar-water mixture and vanilla extract. Stir to combine.
  4. Place the cherries in the bowl and stir gently to coat. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight for a more intense flavor infusion.
  5. If desired, melt some chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl or over a double boiler. Dip each cherry into the melted chocolate, then place it on a parchment-lined tray to cool and set.
  6. Once the cherries are soaked and, if desired, coated in chocolate, serve them cold as a fun, boozy treat! Enjoy responsibly!

Notes

  • You can also use other flavored liquors like rum, whiskey, or tequila for different twists on this treat.
  • If you prefer a less sweet version, you can skip the sugar-water mixture and use only the alcohol.
  • These cherries can be made up to a week in advance and stored in the refrigerator in an airtight container.
  • For a festive touch, garnish the cherries with a small piece of mint or a decorative paper umbrella before serving.
