Perfect for pampering yourself, they leave your skin feeling soft, smooth, and delicately scented. These easy-to-make bath truffles are an ideal homemade gift for any occasion!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup baking soda
  • ½ cup citric acid
  • ½ cup cornstarch
  • ½ cup Epsom salt
  • ¼ cup coconut oil (melted)
  • ¼ cup shea butter (melted)
  • 2 tbsp peach fragrance oil (or essential oil)
  • 1 tbsp bramble berry fragrance oil (or essential oil)
  • 2 tbsp water (or more if needed)
  • A few drops of food coloring (optional)
  • Dried flower petals or mica powder for decoration (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dry Ingredients:
    • In a large bowl, combine the baking soda, citric acid, cornstarch, and Epsom salt. Stir together until the dry ingredients are fully combined.
  2. Melt the Wet Ingredients:
    • In a small microwave-safe bowl, melt the coconut oil and shea butter together. Heat in 20-30 second intervals, stirring in between, until both oils are completely melted and smooth.
  3. Add Fragrance and Coloring:
    • Once the oils have melted, add the peach fragrance oil, bramble berry fragrance oil, and a few drops of food coloring (if using) to the melted oils. Stir well to combine.
  4. Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients:
    • Slowly add the melted oil mixture to the dry ingredients while stirring continuously. The key is to mix gently so that the mixture doesn’t start fizzing prematurely.
    • Gradually add water, one teaspoon at a time, and continue to mix. Be careful not to add too much water at once. The mixture should hold its shape when pressed together, similar to wet sand.
  5. Shape the Truffles:
    • Scoop the mixture into silicone molds or use your hands to form small truffle-sized balls. You can also roll the mixture into small spheres if you don’t have molds.
    • If desired, decorate the top of each truffle with dried flower petals or a sprinkle of mica powder for added visual appeal.
  6. Dry the Bath Truffles:
    • Let the bath truffles dry for at least 12-24 hours, depending on humidity levels, until they are completely hardened. They should be firm to the touch but still delicate enough to dissolve in water.
  7. Store or Use:
    • Once fully dried, store the truffles in an airtight container until ready to use. When you’re ready to indulge, drop a bath truffle into warm water and watch it dissolve, releasing its fruity and floral scents while moisturizing your skin.

Notes

  • Ensure that the mixture isn’t too wet, or the bath truffles may not harden properly.
  • Adjust the fragrance oils to your liking; you can use just one or mix different scents to create your perfect bath truffle.
  • Be cautious when adding food coloring, as it may stain the tub if not thoroughly rinsed.
  • You can also substitute the coconut oil and shea butter with other oils, such as olive oil, sweet almond oil, or grapeseed oil, if preferred.
