Description

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lbs ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined.
  2. Form into 4–6 oval patties.
  3. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook patties for 4–5 minutes per side until browned. Remove and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, add butter and sliced onions. Cook until onions are soft and golden, about 5–7 minutes.
  5. Sprinkle in flour and cook for 1–2 minutes, stirring constantly to form a roux.
  6. Slowly whisk in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, scraping up browned bits from the pan. Simmer until thickened, about 3–4 minutes.
  7. Return hamburger steaks to the skillet and spoon gravy over the top. Cover and simmer for 10–15 minutes until cooked through.
  8. Serve hot with mashed potatoes, rice, or vegetables.
