For the Brownies:

  • 1 box brownie mix (plus the ingredients listed on the box, typically eggs, oil, and water)

For the Cauldron Filling:

  • 1 stick butter (1/2 cup), room temperature
  • 12 cups powdered sugar
  • Green food coloring (e.g., Leaf Green Wilton gel food coloring)

For the Decorations:

  • Large green nonpareil sprinkles
  • Small green nonpareil sprinkles
  • Pretzel sticks (optional, for “stir spoons”)

Instructions

  • Prepare the Brownies:
    • Preheat your oven to the temperature specified on the brownie mix box.
    • Spray a mini muffin pan with non-stick cooking spray.
    • Prepare the brownie mix according to the package instructions.
    • Fill each mini muffin well about 2/3 full with brownie batter.
    • Bake for 10-15 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Create Cauldron Indentations:
    • Once the brownies are out of the oven, use the back of a 1/2 tablespoon to press down the center of each brownie to create an indentation.
    • Allow the brownies to cool completely before removing them from the pan.
  • Make the Buttercream Frosting:
    • In a medium bowl, beat the room temperature butter with an electric mixer for about 30 seconds until smooth.
    • Gradually add in the powdered sugar, beating until well combined.
    • Add green food coloring a little at a time until you achieve your desired shade of green.
  • Assemble the Cauldrons:
    • Once the brownies are cool, use a spoon to add a dollop of green buttercream frosting into the center of each brownie “cauldron.”
    • Create wispy peaks in the buttercream to resemble a bubbling potion.
    • Add large and small green nonpareil sprinkles on top of the frosting to enhance the bubbling effect. Allow some frosting to drip down the sides and add sprinkles there too for an over-flowing look.
  • Optional:
    • Break pretzel sticks in half and insert them into the frosting as “stir spoons.”

  • Ensure brownies are completely cool before decorating to prevent the frosting from melting.
