Description

These classic butter cookies are rich, tender, and incredibly easy to make. Perfect for any occasion, they can be enjoyed plain or customized with your favorite toppings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

Instructions

  • Prepare the Dough: Beat butter, sugar, salt, and vanilla together until smooth and creamy. Add the egg yolk, mixing until fully incorporated, and scrape down the bowl as needed.
  • Add Flour: Gradually mix in the flour until just incorporated.
  • Shape and Chill: Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface, knead a few times until smooth, shape into a log, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for several hours (or freeze for later).
  • Preheat Oven: Set your oven to 325°F (160°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • Slice and Bake: Slice the chilled dough into 1/8-inch thick rounds. Place them 1 inch apart on the baking sheets.
  • Bake and Cool: Bake for 16-18 minutes, or until the edges are just beginning to turn golden. Let cool on a rack before serving.

Notes

For added flavor, consider mixing in chocolate chips or nuts.
