Description

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small head of cabbage, shredded
  • 1 (15 oz) can tomato sauce
  • 1 (14.5 oz) can diced tomatoes
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (optional, for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat, breaking it into small pieces as it cooks. Drain excess fat.
  3. Add chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet with the beef and cook for 2-3 minutes until softened.
  4. Stir in the shredded cabbage, tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Cook for another 5-7 minutes, until the cabbage starts to soften.
  5. Transfer the beef and cabbage mixture to a greased baking dish.
  6. (Optional) Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese on top of the casserole.
  7. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  8. Remove foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes, until the casserole is bubbly and cheese is melted.
  9. Let cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

  • You can skip the cheese if you want a lighter version of this dish.
