- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 small head of cabbage, shredded
- 1 (15 oz) can tomato sauce
- 1 (14.5 oz) can diced tomatoes
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (optional, for topping)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat, breaking it into small pieces as it cooks. Drain excess fat.
- Add chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet with the beef and cook for 2-3 minutes until softened.
- Stir in the shredded cabbage, tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Cook for another 5-7 minutes, until the cabbage starts to soften.
- Transfer the beef and cabbage mixture to a greased baking dish.
- (Optional) Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese on top of the casserole.
- Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
- Remove foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes, until the casserole is bubbly and cheese is melted.
- Let cool for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
- You can skip the cheese if you want a lighter version of this dish.
- Feel free to add in other vegetables like carrots or bell peppers for extra flavor and nutrition.
