Description
A comforting casserole inspired by traditional cabbage rolls, layering seasoned ground beef, cabbage, rice, and tomato sauce for an easy, hearty meal.

- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 head green cabbage, chopped
- 1 cup cooked white rice
- 1 (15 oz) can tomato sauce
- 1 (14.5 oz) can diced tomatoes
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC). Grease a 9ร13 inch baking dish.
- In a large skillet, cook ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat.
- Add chopped onion and garlic; cook until softened, about 3-4 minutes.
- Stir in chopped cabbage and cook until slightly wilted, about 5 minutes.
- In a bowl, combine cooked rice, tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, Worcestershire sauce, oregano, salt, and pepper.
- Layer half of the cabbage-beef mixture in the bottom of the baking dish.
- Spread the rice and tomato mixture evenly over the meat and cabbage layer.
- Top with remaining cabbage-beef mixture.
- Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
- If desired, remove foil, sprinkle shredded cheddar on top, and bake uncovered for an additional 10 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
Notes
- Substitute ground turkey or chicken for a leaner option.
- Use cauliflower rice for a low-carb variation.
- Leftovers reheat well and taste even better the next day.
