Description

Cajun Potato and Cheddar Sausage Hand Pies are savory, flaky pastries packed with spicy mashed potatoes, smoky sausage, and melty cheddar cheese. With bold Cajun flavors and a golden, crisp crust, they’re perfect as a hearty appetizer, lunch, or snack on the go.


Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry or pie crust, thawed
  • 1/2 lb smoked cheddar sausage, diced
  • 1 cup mashed potatoes
  • 1/2 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • All-purpose flour (for dusting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, combine mashed potatoes, sausage, cheese, Cajun seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  3. Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface and cut into 4–6 rectangles or circles.
  4. Place 2–3 tablespoons of filling on one half of each piece. Fold over and crimp the edges with a fork to seal.
  5. Beat the egg and brush over each hand pie.
  6. Place pies on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 18–22 minutes, until golden brown.
  7. Cool slightly before serving. Serve warm with dipping sauce if desired.

Notes

  • Use leftover mashed potatoes for convenience.
  • Freeze unbaked pies and bake directly from frozen (add 5–7 minutes).
  • Try with spicy mustard, ranch, or remoulade for dipping.
