Description

These Candied Sweet Potatoes are a delightful side dish featuring tender slices of sweet potatoes coated in a rich, caramelized sauce made from butter, brown sugar, and maple syrup. Topped with crunchy nuts, they are the perfect complement to any meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 medium sweet potatoes, peeled and sliced into rounds
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup or honey
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Optional: 1/4 cup chopped pecans or walnuts for extra crunch

Instructions

  • Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a baking dish with butter or cooking spray.
  • Prep the Sauce: In a small saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the brown sugar, granulated sugar, maple syrup (or honey), cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Simmer gently for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  • Layer the Sweet Potatoes: Place the sweet potato rounds in the prepared baking dish, spreading them evenly.
  • Pour the Sauce: Pour the warm sauce over the sweet potatoes, coating them evenly. If desired, sprinkle chopped pecans or walnuts on top.
  • Bake: Cover the dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil, stir the potatoes, and continue baking for another 20-25 minutes until tender and bubbly.
  • Serve Warm: Let cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For added texture, try using a mix of nuts.
  • These sweet potatoes can be made ahead of time and reheated before serving.
