Description

A delicious and comforting dessert featuring tart Granny Smith apples, a buttery oat topping, and a rich caramel drizzle. This Caramel Apple Crisp is perfect for fall gatherings or as a sweet treat any time of year. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for an extra indulgent experience.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Apple Filling:

  • 6 large Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

For the Crisp Topping:

  • 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)

Instructions

  • Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  • Prepare the Apple Filling: In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, and lemon juice. Mix well and spread the apple mixture evenly in the prepared baking dish.
  • Make the Crisp Topping: In another bowl, combine the rolled oats, all-purpose flour, light brown sugar, melted butter, and salt. Stir until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Assemble the Crisp: Sprinkle the crisp topping evenly over the apples in the baking dish. Drizzle the caramel sauce over the topping.
  • Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender when pierced with a fork.
  • Cool and Serve: Allow the crisp to cool for a few minutes before serving. Serve warm, optionally with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

  • Caramel Sauce: You can use store-bought caramel sauce or make your own for a richer flavor.
  • Apple Variety: Granny Smith apples are ideal for their tartness, but you can substitute with other apple varieties if needed.
  • Topping Texture: For a crunchier topping, bake it a bit longer or add a few extra minutes at a higher temperature.
