Description
These delicious caramel apple dumplings feature warm, tender apples wrapped in buttery dough and smothered with a rich, gooey caramel sauce. Perfect for dessert or a sweet treat!
Ingredients
Scale
For the dumplings:
- 4 large apples, peeled, cored, and halved
- 1 package (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough
- 1 tablespoon butter, melted
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
For the caramel sauce:
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup water
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Place each apple half into a crescent roll dough triangle, rolling it up to enclose the apple completely. Arrange the dumplings in the prepared baking dish.
- In a small bowl, mix together melted butter, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Brush the spiced butter over the tops of the dumplings.
- In a saucepan, combine the butter, brown sugar, vanilla extract, salt, and water. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the sugar is dissolved and the mixture comes to a simmer. Pour the caramel sauce over the dumplings.
- Bake the dumplings in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until golden and bubbly.
- Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, if desired.
Notes
- You can use Granny Smith apples for a tart contrast to the sweet caramel sauce.
- For a twist, add a sprinkle of chopped nuts (like pecans or walnuts) to the caramel sauce before pouring it over the dumplings.
