Ingredients
Scale
- 2 pie crusts (store-bought or homemade)
- 6 cups peeled and sliced apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or a mix)
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 2 tsp lemon juice
- 1/2 cup caramel sauce (plus extra for drizzling)
- 1 tbsp butter (optional, dotted on top of filling)
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- 1 tbsp water (for egg wash)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Roll out one pie crust into a 9-inch pie pan.
- In a large bowl, toss apples with lemon juice, sugars, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
- Add the caramel sauce and gently stir to combine.
- Pour apple mixture into prepared crust and dot with butter if using.
- Top with the second crust (whole with slits, or in a lattice pattern). Trim and crimp edges.
- Mix egg and water to make an egg wash. Brush over the top crust.
- Bake for 45–50 minutes or until golden and bubbling. If crust browns too quickly, tent with foil.
- Cool for at least 2 hours before slicing. Drizzle with extra caramel when serving.
Notes
- Use a mix of tart and sweet apples for the best flavor.
- Store leftovers covered at room temp for 2 days or refrigerated for up to 5 days.
- Serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for a decadent finish.
- You can make it ahead—just rewarm slices in the microwave or oven.
