Description

These Carrot & Apple Crunchy Cookies are a healthy, tasty treat for your furry friends! Made with fresh, wholesome ingredients like carrots, apples, and oats, these cookies are full of flavor and crunch that your dog will love. They’re easy to make and provide a nutritious snack that’s perfect for training or rewarding your pet. Free from artificial additives, these cookies will have your dog wagging their tail in excitement!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup rolled oats (make sure they’re dog-safe and gluten-free if needed)

  • 1 cup whole wheat flour (or oat flour for gluten-free)

  • ½ cup shredded carrot (about 1 medium carrot)

  • ½ cup finely chopped apple (peeled and cored, about 1 small apple)

  • 1 large egg

  • ¼ cup unsweetened applesauce

  • 2 tbsp peanut butter (make sure it’s xylitol-free)

  • 1 tsp cinnamon (optional, for added flavor)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.

  2. Mix the dry ingredients:
In a medium-sized bowl, combine the rolled oats, whole wheat flour (or oat flour), and cinnamon (if using). Stir to combine.

  3. Combine the wet ingredients:
In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg, applesauce, peanut butter, and shredded carrot. Add the finely chopped apple to this mixture and stir until evenly combined.

  4. Combine wet and dry ingredients:
Gradually add the wet mixture into the dry ingredients, stirring until a dough forms. If the dough feels too sticky, add a little more flour or oats to achieve a firm, workable dough.

  5. Roll out the dough:
Lightly flour your surface or use parchment paper to roll out the dough to about ¼-inch thickness. Use a cookie cutter or simply cut into small squares or rectangles, depending on your dog’s size and preference.

  6. Bake the cookies:
Place the cookies onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 1 inch apart. Bake in the preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes or until the cookies are golden brown and crisp.

  7. Cool:
Once baked, remove the cookies from the oven and let them cool completely on a wire rack.

  8. Serve:
Serve these crunchy cookies to your dog as a treat. Store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week, or freeze for longer storage.

Notes

  • Apple: Ensure that the apple is properly peeled and cored to remove any seeds, as apple seeds can be harmful to dogs.

  • Peanut Butter: Be sure to use natural peanut butter without xylitol, as xylitol is toxic to dogs.

  • Customization: You can substitute the carrot and apple with other dog-safe vegetables and fruits, such as pumpkin, sweet potato, or blueberries, for variety.

  • Size of Cookies: Adjust the size of the cookies depending on the size of your dog. Smaller cookies are perfect for training or small dogs, while larger ones work well for big dogs.
