Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 white fish fillets (such as tilapia, cod, or snapper)
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon green onions, sliced
  • Sesame seeds (for garnish)
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil (for cooking)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, sesame oil, rice vinegar, honey, garlic, ginger, and hoisin sauce to make the marinade.
  2. Place the fish fillets in a shallow dish or resealable bag and pour the marinade over them. Let them marinate in the refrigerator for at least 15 minutes, up to 30 minutes.
  3. Heat a cast iron skillet over medium-high heat and add vegetable oil.
  4. Once the skillet is hot, remove the fish from the marinade (reserving the marinade) and place the fillets in the skillet. Cook for about 3–4 minutes on each side until the fish is crispy and cooked through.
  5. Pour the reserved marinade over the fish during the last minute of cooking to warm it through.
  6. Remove from heat and garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds.
  7. Serve hot with steamed rice or your favorite side dishes.

Notes

  • Feel free to use any firm white fish like cod, snapper, or tilapia for this recipe.
  • If you prefer a spicier version, add a dash of chili flakes or a small chopped chili to the marinade.
  • For a more intense flavor, marinate the fish for up to 2 hours before cooking.
