Description

Cheddar Cheese Puffs are light, airy, and perfectly cheesy, making them the ideal snack or appetizer. With a crispy outside and soft, cheesy inside, these puffs are sure to be a crowd favorite at any gathering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  2. In a medium saucepan, bring water and butter to a boil over medium heat. Stir in the salt (and garlic powder, if using) and remove from heat.
  3. Quickly add the flour to the saucepan, stirring vigorously until the mixture comes together into a thick dough and pulls away from the sides of the pan. Let it cool for about 5 minutes.
  4. Beat in the eggs one at a time, making sure each egg is fully incorporated before adding the next. Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese and baking powder until well combined.
  5. Spoon tablespoon-sized dollops of the dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  6. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the puffs are golden brown and puffed up. They should be crisp on the outside and soft inside.
  7. Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly before serving. Serve warm for the best texture.

Notes

  • For an extra cheesy flavor, sprinkle more shredded cheddar on top of the puffs before baking.
  • These can be made ahead of time and stored in an airtight container for a few days. To reheat, bake at 350°F (175°C) for 5–10 minutes.
  • Feel free to experiment with other types of cheese like Parmesan or Gruyère for a different twist.
