Description
Cheddar Cheese Puffs are light, airy, and perfectly cheesy, making them the ideal snack or appetizer. With a crispy outside and soft, cheesy inside, these puffs are sure to be a crowd favorite at any gathering.

- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
- 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 4 large eggs
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
- In a medium saucepan, bring water and butter to a boil over medium heat. Stir in the salt (and garlic powder, if using) and remove from heat.
- Quickly add the flour to the saucepan, stirring vigorously until the mixture comes together into a thick dough and pulls away from the sides of the pan. Let it cool for about 5 minutes.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, making sure each egg is fully incorporated before adding the next. Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese and baking powder until well combined.
- Spoon tablespoon-sized dollops of the dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the puffs are golden brown and puffed up. They should be crisp on the outside and soft inside.
- Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly before serving. Serve warm for the best texture.
Notes
- For an extra cheesy flavor, sprinkle more shredded cheddar on top of the puffs before baking.
- These can be made ahead of time and stored in an airtight container for a few days. To reheat, bake at 350°F (175°C) for 5–10 minutes.
- Feel free to experiment with other types of cheese like Parmesan or Gruyère for a different twist.
