Description

These Cheeseburger Pockets are a fun and easy way to enjoy a classic cheeseburger in a handheld form! Flaky, golden dough filled with seasoned ground beef, melted cheese, and all your favorite burger toppings. Perfect for dinner or a snack!

Ingredients

Scale

For the Filling:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons mustard
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (or American cheese)
  • 1/4 cup pickles, chopped (optional)

For the Dough:

  • 1 package (8 count) refrigerated biscuit dough (or pizza dough if preferred)

For Assembly:

  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Optional toppings: shredded lettuce, sliced tomatoes, extra pickles, additional ketchup or mustard

Instructions

  1. Cook the Beef:
    • In a large skillet, cook the ground beef and chopped onion over medium heat until the beef is browned and cooked through. Drain any excess grease.
    • Add ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper to the beef mixture. Stir well and cook for an additional 2 minutes. Remove from heat.
    • Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese and chopped pickles (if using) until the cheese melts and everything is well combined.
  2. Prepare the Pockets:
    • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
    • If using biscuit dough, flatten each biscuit into a circle about 4-5 inches wide. If using pizza dough, roll it out into circles.
    • Spoon about 2 tablespoons of the beef and cheese mixture onto the center of each dough circle.
    • Fold the dough over the filling to form a pocket. Pinch the edges to seal.
  3. Bake:
    • Place the pockets on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Brush each pocket with the beaten egg to give them a golden, glossy finish.
    • Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown and cooked through.
  4. Serve:
    • Let the cheeseburger pockets cool slightly before serving. You can serve them with additional toppings like shredded lettuce, sliced tomatoes, and extra ketchup or mustard.

Notes

  • For a healthier option, use lean ground turkey or chicken instead of ground beef.
  • You can add other ingredients like cooked bacon bits, sautéed mushrooms, or shredded lettuce to the filling for extra flavor.
  • These pockets freeze well! Assemble them and freeze before baking. When ready to eat, bake directly from frozen for an extra 5-7 minutes.
