Ingredients
Scale
For the Filling:
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 tablespoons ketchup
- 2 tablespoons mustard
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (or American cheese)
- 1/4 cup pickles, chopped (optional)
For the Dough:
- 1 package (8 count) refrigerated biscuit dough (or pizza dough if preferred)
For Assembly:
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- Optional toppings: shredded lettuce, sliced tomatoes, extra pickles, additional ketchup or mustard
Instructions
- Cook the Beef:
- In a large skillet, cook the ground beef and chopped onion over medium heat until the beef is browned and cooked through. Drain any excess grease.
- Add ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper to the beef mixture. Stir well and cook for an additional 2 minutes. Remove from heat.
- Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese and chopped pickles (if using) until the cheese melts and everything is well combined.
- Prepare the Pockets:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- If using biscuit dough, flatten each biscuit into a circle about 4-5 inches wide. If using pizza dough, roll it out into circles.
- Spoon about 2 tablespoons of the beef and cheese mixture onto the center of each dough circle.
- Fold the dough over the filling to form a pocket. Pinch the edges to seal.
- Bake:
- Place the pockets on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Brush each pocket with the beaten egg to give them a golden, glossy finish.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown and cooked through.
- Serve:
- Let the cheeseburger pockets cool slightly before serving. You can serve them with additional toppings like shredded lettuce, sliced tomatoes, and extra ketchup or mustard.
Notes
- For a healthier option, use lean ground turkey or chicken instead of ground beef.
- You can add other ingredients like cooked bacon bits, sautéed mushrooms, or shredded lettuce to the filling for extra flavor.
- These pockets freeze well! Assemble them and freeze before baking. When ready to eat, bake directly from frozen for an extra 5-7 minutes.
