Ingredients
Scale
- 1 loaf of French bread or Italian bread
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2–3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon dried basil (optional)
- 1/4 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
- 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
- Fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or foil for easy cleanup.
- Slice the loaf of bread in half lengthwise. Place the halves on the prepared baking sheet, cut side up.
- In a small bowl, combine the softened butter, minced garlic, dried oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Mix well until smooth.
- Spread the garlic butter mixture evenly over the cut sides of the bread.
- Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese and grated Parmesan cheese generously over the buttered bread.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly, and the bread edges are golden brown.
- For extra crispiness, you can place the bread under the broiler for 1-2 minutes—just watch closely so it doesn’t burn.
- Remove from the oven and garnish with freshly chopped parsley (optional) before slicing and serving.
Notes
- You can use other types of cheese like cheddar or provolone for a different flavor.
- For a spicier version, add red pepper flakes to the garlic butter mixture.
- This cheesy bread is great as a side dish for pasta, soups, or salads.
