Description

  • These Cheesy Jalapeno Popper Puff Pastry Straws are the ultimate snack that combines creamy cheese, spicy jalapeños, and flaky puff pastry for a fun and flavorful treat! Perfectly crispy on the outside with a gooey, cheesy center, these puff pastry straws are an irresistible appetizer or party snack. Serve with a cool ranch dip or salsa for an added kick!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 sheet of puff pastry (store-bought or homemade, thawed if frozen)

  • 1/2 cup cream cheese, softened

  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese

  • 1/4 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

  • 23 fresh jalapeños, seeds removed and finely chopped (or 1/4 cup pickled jalapeños)

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • 1/4 tsp onion powder

  • 1/4 tsp smoked paprika (optional, for extra flavor)

  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  • Fresh cilantro or green onions for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. Make the filling: In a medium bowl, combine cream cheese, shredded cheddar, mozzarella, chopped jalapeños, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika (if using), and a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix until smooth and creamy.

  3. Prepare the puff pastry: Roll out the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface. Spread the cheese and jalapeño mixture evenly over the entire sheet of pastry, leaving a small border around the edges.

  4. Form the straws: Carefully fold the pastry in half, so the cheese mixture is enclosed. Press down gently to seal the edges. Cut the pastry into strips about 1/2 inch wide.

  5. Twist the straws: Twist each strip a few times to create a spiral shape. Place the twisted straws on the prepared baking sheet.

  6. Egg wash: Brush the top of each pastry straw with the beaten egg to give them a golden, shiny finish.

  7. Bake: Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the puff pastry is golden brown and crispy.

  8. Serve: Garnish with fresh cilantro or green onions, if desired. Serve warm with ranch dip, salsa, or sour cream.

Notes

  • You can substitute the jalapeños with other peppers (such as serrano or poblano) for a different flavor.

  • For an extra crispy finish, bake the straws on a wire rack placed on top of the baking sheet.

  • If you prefer a milder version, use fewer jalapeños or opt for pickled jalapeños which are milder.
