Description

Cheesy Sloppy Joes are a fun and delicious twist on the classic sloppy joe. Ground beef is cooked in a savory sauce, topped with melty cheese, and served on a soft bun for a comforting, hearty meal. Perfect for busy weeknights, these sloppy joes are easy to make, satisfying, and always a hit with the family!

Ingredients

  • Cook the Ground Beef:
In a large skillet, heat a little oil over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks. Drain any excess fat if necessary.

  • Add the Vegetables:
Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the pan with the beef. Cook for 3-4 minutes until the onion becomes soft and translucent.

  • Make the Sloppy Joe Sauce:
Add the ketchup, tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, mustard, paprika, onion powder, salt, and pepper to the skillet. Stir everything together and let the sauce simmer for about 5 minutes, until it thickens and the flavors meld together.

  • Add the Cheese:
Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese (or a mix of cheddar and mozzarella) into the meat mixture. Continue stirring until the cheese melts and becomes fully incorporated into the sloppy joe sauce, making it creamy and cheesy.

  • Assemble the Sloppy Joes:
Spoon the cheesy sloppy joe mixture onto the bottom halves of the toasted hamburger buns. Top with the other half of the bun.

  • Serve:
Serve the cheesy sloppy joes hot, garnished with pickles or fresh parsley if desired. Enjoy with a side of fries or a simple salad!

Notes

  • Make it Spicy: For a spicy kick, add a little hot sauce, red pepper flakes, or chopped jalapeños to the sloppy joe mixture.

  • Cheese Options: Feel free to experiment with different cheeses like pepper jack, mozzarella, or provolone for a unique flavor.

  • Vegetarian Option: Substitute the ground beef with lentils, mushrooms, or a plant-based meat alternative for a vegetarian version.

  • Storage: Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3-4 days. Reheat in the microwave or on the stovetop.
