Description

These Cherry Bars are a delightful treat perfect for Christmas morning, especially when paired with a warm cup of hot cocoa. They feature a buttery, sweet base topped with delicious cherry pie filling and a drizzle of sweet glaze.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon almond extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cans (21 ounces each) cherry pie filling

GLAZE:

  • 1 cup confectioners’ sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons whole milk

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, sugar, and salt until light and fluffy.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  • Beat in the vanilla and almond extracts.
  • Gradually add the flour, mixing until well combined.
  • Spread 3 cups of the dough into a greased 15x10x1-inch baking pan.
  • Spread the cherry pie filling over the dough.
  • Drop the remaining dough by teaspoonfuls over the filling.
  • Bake for 35-40 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.
  • In a small bowl, mix together the confectioners’ sugar, extracts, and enough milk to reach the desired consistency for the glaze. Drizzle over the cooled bars.

Notes

  • For best results, ensure the butter is softened to room temperature for easier creaming.
  • Allow the bars to cool completely before glazing to prevent the glaze from melting.
