Description

This Chinese Chicken and Broccoli stir fry is a quick, flavorful, and healthy dish featuring tender marinated chicken thighs, crisp broccoli, and a savory sauce with a hint of sweetness. Perfect for busy weeknights, it pairs beautifully with steamed white rice for a delicious homemade alternative to takeout.

Ingredients

Scale
  • Marinade

    • 1 lb boneless skinless chicken thigh, cut into 1/2-inch pieces
    • 2 tsp honey
    • 2 tsp sesame oil
    • 2 tbsp soy sauce
    • 1 tsp cornstarch

    Stir Fry

    • 4 cloves garlic, roughly chopped
    • 1/4 cup chicken broth (or water if unavailable)
    • 2 tbsp cooking oil, divided
    • 1 crown of broccoli, cut into florets
    • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
    • 1 tsp sesame oil
    • Salt, to taste

Instructions

  • Marinate the Chicken: In a small bowl, combine chicken pieces with honey, sesame oil, soy sauce, and cornstarch. Allow to marinate for at least 30 minutes or overnight for enhanced flavor.
  • Cook the Chicken: Heat 1 tbsp of cooking oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the marinated chicken and garlic, stir-frying for about 5 minutes until mostly browned. Remove from heat and set aside.
  • Stir Fry the Broccoli: In the same skillet, add another tbsp of oil, chicken broth, and broccoli. Cover and cook on medium heat for 1 minute. Uncover and stir-fry for an additional 2 minutes, or until the broccoli reaches a vibrant green and your preferred tenderness.
  • Combine Ingredients: Return the chicken to the skillet, adding oyster sauce and sesame oil. Stir-fry all ingredients together until well mixed and heated through.
  • Serve: Remove from heat and serve with steamed white rice for a satisfying meal.

Notes

  • For maximum flavor, marinate the chicken overnight if possible. Adjust broccoli tenderness by cooking longer for softer texture or less for crunchier bites. Optional garnish: sprinkle with sesame seeds or green onions.
