- 2 cups glutinous (sticky) rice
- 2 Chinese sausages (lap cheong), sliced
- 1/2 cup dried shiitake mushrooms, soaked and chopped
- 2 tablespoons dried shrimp, soaked and chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 green onions, chopped
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- Salt and white pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Rinse the glutinous rice several times until water runs clear. Soak the rice in water for at least 4 hours or overnight. Drain.
- Heat vegetable oil in a wok or large skillet over medium heat. Add garlic, Chinese sausage, dried shrimp, and mushrooms. Stir-fry for 3-4 minutes until fragrant.
- Add the drained rice and stir to combine well with the other ingredients.
- Add soy sauce, oyster sauce, salt, and white pepper. Mix thoroughly.
- Transfer the mixture to a heatproof dish or bamboo steamer lined with cheesecloth.
- Steam over boiling water for about 30-40 minutes until the rice is fully cooked and tender.
- Drizzle sesame oil over the cooked rice and garnish with chopped green onions before serving.
Notes
- You can substitute Chinese sausage with cooked diced chicken or pork if preferred.
- For a vegetarian version, omit dried shrimp and sausage; add extra mushrooms and tofu.
- Adjust seasoning to taste, especially salt and soy sauce.
