Description

A traditional Chinese dish featuring sticky glutinous rice mixed with savory ingredients like Chinese sausage, mushrooms, and dried shrimp. Perfect as a hearty side or main dish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups glutinous (sticky) rice
  • 2 Chinese sausages (lap cheong), sliced
  • 1/2 cup dried shiitake mushrooms, soaked and chopped
  • 2 tablespoons dried shrimp, soaked and chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • Salt and white pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Rinse the glutinous rice several times until water runs clear. Soak the rice in water for at least 4 hours or overnight. Drain.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a wok or large skillet over medium heat. Add garlic, Chinese sausage, dried shrimp, and mushrooms. Stir-fry for 3-4 minutes until fragrant.
  3. Add the drained rice and stir to combine well with the other ingredients.
  4. Add soy sauce, oyster sauce, salt, and white pepper. Mix thoroughly.
  5. Transfer the mixture to a heatproof dish or bamboo steamer lined with cheesecloth.
  6. Steam over boiling water for about 30-40 minutes until the rice is fully cooked and tender.
  7. Drizzle sesame oil over the cooked rice and garnish with chopped green onions before serving.

Notes

  • You can substitute Chinese sausage with cooked diced chicken or pork if preferred.
  • For a vegetarian version, omit dried shrimp and sausage; add extra mushrooms and tofu.
  • Adjust seasoning to taste, especially salt and soy sauce.
