Description

These Chocolate Bird Nests are the perfect Easter treat! Made with melted chocolate and crunchy chow mein noodles, they’re easy to make and decorate with colorful candy eggs to mimic bird nests. A fun, festive treat that’s as delicious as it is cute!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 bag (10 oz) chow mein noodles (or you can use pretzel sticks for a different texture)
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips (or milk chocolate chips, if you prefer)
  • 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter (optional, for extra richness)
  • 1 cup candy eggs (jelly beans, chocolate eggs, or candy-coated chocolates like M&Ms)

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional, for extra flavor)

Instructions

  1. Melt the Chocolate:

    • In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the semi-sweet chocolate chips and peanut butter (if using). Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until the chocolate is fully melted and smooth. You can also melt the chocolate using a double boiler if you prefer.
    • Stir in the vanilla extract if desired for extra flavor.
  2. Combine with Noodles:

    • Add the chow mein noodles to the melted chocolate mixture. Stir gently to coat all the noodles with the chocolate. Be careful not to break the noodles, as you want them to maintain their shape.
  3. Shape the Nests:

    • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or wax paper. Using a spoon, scoop out small portions of the chocolate-coated noodles and form little nests on the paper.
    • Use the back of the spoon to gently create a small indent in the center of each nest to hold the candy eggs later.
  4. Decorate:

    • Once the nests are formed, place them in the fridge for 20-30 minutes to set and harden.
    • Once the nests are firm, add your candy eggs to the center of each nest.
  5. Serve and Enjoy:

    • Serve immediately or store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.

Notes

  • Chocolate Options: You can use milk chocolate or white chocolate instead of semi-sweet chocolate for a different flavor.
  • No Chow Mein Noodles? If you can’t find chow mein noodles, you can also use crispy rice cereal like Rice Krispies for a different texture.
  • Nuts: For added flavor, you can mix in chopped nuts like peanuts or almonds with the noodles before forming the nests.

  • Vegan Option: Use dairy-free chocolate chips and peanut butter for a vegan-friendly version of this treat.
