- 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- (Optional) 1/2 cup crushed nuts (e.g., hazelnuts or pecans)
For the Hazelnut Icing:
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1/4 cup hazelnut spread (e.g., Nutella)
- 2–3 tbsp milk
Instructions
- Prepare the Dough: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, granulated sugar, yeast, and salt. Add warm milk, melted butter, and egg; stir until a soft dough forms. Knead on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for about 1 hour until doubled.
- Make the Filling: Mix brown sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl.
- Assemble the Rolls: Roll out dough into a rectangle (12×18 inches). Spread softened butter over the dough and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar mixture and nuts if using. Roll tightly from one long edge and cut into 12 slices.
- Second Rise: Place rolls in a greased baking dish with space between them. Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
- Bake: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for about 25 minutes until golden.
- Make the Icing: Whisk together powdered sugar, hazelnut spread, and milk until smooth.
- Glaze the Rolls: Allow rolls to cool slightly before drizzling with icing.
- Serve and Enjoy: Best served warm with coffee or hot chocolate.
