Ingredients
Scale
For the Pastry:
- 1 package (2 sheets) of Refrigerated Pie Crusts (or homemade if preferred)
- 1 tbsp Granulated Sugar (for sprinkling on top)
For the Chocolate Filling:
- 1/2 cup Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips (or chopped chocolate)
- 2 tbsp Heavy Cream
- 1/2 tsp Vanilla Extract
- 1/4 cup Powdered Sugar (optional, for added sweetness)
Instructions
- Prepare the Pastry:
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Roll out the pie crusts on a lightly floured surface. Using a round cutter or the edge of a glass, cut the dough into circles, about 4-5 inches in diameter. You should be able to get 8-10 circles from the two sheets of dough.
- Make the Chocolate Filling:
- In a microwave-safe bowl, heat the chocolate chips and heavy cream together in 20-second intervals, stirring in between, until the chocolate is completely melted and smooth.
- Stir in the vanilla extract. If you want the filling to be sweeter, add powdered sugar and mix until smooth.
- Assemble the Hand Pies:
- Spoon about 1-2 teaspoons of the chocolate filling onto the center of each dough circle. Be careful not to overfill them.
- Fold the dough in half to cover the chocolate, creating a half-moon shape.
- Use a fork to press the edges of the pie together, sealing the hand pies.
- Bake the Hand Pies:
- Place the assembled hand pies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Sprinkle the tops lightly with granulated sugar for a bit of sweetness and a golden finish.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and flaky.
- Serve:
- Allow the hand pies to cool for a few minutes before serving. They’re delicious warm, but can also be enjoyed at room temperature.
Notes
- You can use other fillings like Nutella, peanut butter, or a mix of chocolate and caramel for variation.
- These hand pies can be made ahead of time and stored in an airtight container for up to 2-3 days. Reheat them in the oven for a few minutes to restore the flakiness.
- For a festive touch, dust with powdered sugar before serving.
