Description

Chocolate Ooey Gooey Cake is a decadent, rich dessert that’s perfectly fudgy and packed with chocolate flavor. With its gooey center and a slightly crisp top, this cake is an irresistible treat for chocolate lovers! It’s easy to make and is sure to be a crowd-pleaser, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • For the Cake:

    • 1 box (15.25 oz) chocolate cake mix
    • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
    • 1 large egg
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • For the Filling:

    • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
    • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
    • 1 (16 oz) powdered sugar
    • 1 large egg
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper.
  2. Prepare the cake layer: In a medium-sized bowl, combine the chocolate cake mix, melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract. Mix until well combined. Spread this mixture evenly into the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
  3. Prepare the filling: In a separate bowl, beat the cream cheese and butter together until smooth. Add the powdered sugar, egg, and vanilla extract, and mix until smooth and creamy.
  4. Assemble the cake: Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly over the cake batter in the baking dish. Don’t mix it together, just spread it on top.
  5. Bake: Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the edges are set and the top is slightly golden. The center should remain a little gooey (hence “ooey gooey”).
  6. Cool: Let the cake cool in the pan for 10-15 minutes before cutting it into squares.
  7. Serve: Serve warm or at room temperature. You can dust with powdered sugar or add a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an extra indulgent treat.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor: Use a higher quality chocolate cake mix or make your own chocolate cake from scratch.
  • Customize the filling: You can add chocolate chips to the cream cheese filling for extra chocolatey goodness.
  • Storage: Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or in the fridge for up to 1 week. Reheat in the microwave for a few seconds before serving for that warm, gooey texture.
  • Make ahead: This cake can be made the day before. Let it cool completely, then cover and store at room temperature. Reheat before serving.
