Description

A decadent chocolate cake layered with a zesty orange cream filling and topped with rich chocolate ganache, perfect for any celebration.


Ingredients

  • For the Orange Cream Filling:
    • 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
    • 4 cups powdered sugar
    • 1/4 cup freshly squeezed orange juice
    • 1 tablespoon orange zest
    • 1/4 cup heavy cream (as needed)
  • For the Chocolate Ganache:
    • 1 cup dark chocolate (chopped)
    • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • For Garnish:
    • Orange slices or zest
    • Extra melted chocolate for drizzling (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two 9-inch round cake pans with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract; beat until smooth. Gradually stir in boiling water (or hot coffee).
  • Divide the batter between prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes. Cool completely.
  • For the filling, beat butter until fluffy, then add powdered sugar alternately with orange juice and zest. Adjust consistency with heavy cream.
  • For the ganache, heat cream until simmering, pour over chopped chocolate, and stir until smooth. Cool slightly.
  • Assemble by placing one cake layer on a plate, spreading orange filling, adding the second layer, and pouring ganache on top.
  • Garnish with orange slices and drizzle with melted chocolate if desired.

Notes

This cake is best served chilled after assembly for optimal flavor.
