- Extra melted chocolate for drizzling (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two 9-inch round cake pans with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract; beat until smooth. Gradually stir in boiling water (or hot coffee).
- Divide the batter between prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes. Cool completely.
- For the filling, beat butter until fluffy, then add powdered sugar alternately with orange juice and zest. Adjust consistency with heavy cream.
- For the ganache, heat cream until simmering, pour over chopped chocolate, and stir until smooth. Cool slightly.
- Assemble by placing one cake layer on a plate, spreading orange filling, adding the second layer, and pouring ganache on top.
- Garnish with orange slices and drizzle with melted chocolate if desired.
Notes
This cake is best served chilled after assembly for optimal flavor.
