Description
These decadent Chocolate Oreo Hand Pies combine the richness of chocolate with the crunch of Oreo cookies, all wrapped in a flaky, buttery crust. Perfect for a grab-and-go treat or dessert.
Ingredients
Scale
For the Dough:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 6–8 tablespoons cold water
For the Filling:
- 10 Oreo cookies, crushed
- ½ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 3 tablespoons heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the Egg Wash:
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 tablespoon milk (optional, for gloss)
Instructions
- Prepare the dough:
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and salt.
- Add the cold, cubed butter and use a pastry cutter or your hands to cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Gradually add cold water, one tablespoon at a time, until the dough comes together (it should be slightly crumbly but hold its shape when pressed).
- Divide the dough into two balls, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- Prepare the filling:
- In a small bowl, combine crushed Oreo cookies and chocolate chips.
- In a microwave-safe bowl, heat the heavy cream until it begins to simmer (about 30-45 seconds).
- Pour the hot cream over the Oreo and chocolate mixture. Stir until smooth and fully combined. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- Assemble the hand pies:
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Roll out one dough ball on a lightly floured surface to about ⅛-inch thickness. Using a round cutter or a glass, cut out circles (about 4-5 inches in diameter).
- Place a spoonful of the Oreo chocolate mixture in the center of each dough circle.
- Fold the dough over the filling to create a half-moon shape. Use a fork to crimp the edges and seal the hand pies.
- Repeat with the remaining dough and filling.
- Bake the pies:
- Brush the tops of the hand pies with the egg wash (egg and milk mixture).
- Place the hand pies on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- Feel free to swap the semi-sweet chocolate chips for milk chocolate or white chocolate, depending on your preference.
- You can freeze the unbaked hand pies for later. Just pop them in the oven from frozen for an additional 5-10 minutes.
- These hand pies are best enjoyed warm but can be stored in an airtight container for 2-3 days.
